Scylla is the principal protagonist of Reefside Rumble. Her initial model and design explorations were part of my Mermay 2023 project, but I remodeled her for this project because that iteration of her simply didn't cut it for me in terms of quality.
Her design has always drawn from the Inklings of Splatoon and the elaborate armor sets of the Monster Hunter series, but for her revised model I scaled the size and overreliance on mesh down a tiny bit, and drew a bit more from Baldur's Gate 3, Sea of Thieves and my own design for Cordelia to create a more visually cohesive pair. I wanted them to read as part of a team, but still give them their own touches.
Scylla's final design incorporates cartoony silhouette and final look with the more realistic proportions and slightly pared down final outfit to create a deeply memorable battlemage themed around shallows, tidepools and reefs.
I envisioned her as having a quite studied and upright baring, very quiet and fierce, to better sell her combat background. She fights with spells and a trident, so I tried to animate her with a bit of weight and momentum - she should look confident and self-assured in her movement.
That being said, she can also show a bit of doubt or slightly more careful consideration in her face, so her face does still reflect that as necessary. Check out my animation tests for her below!
