REEFSIDE RUMBLE Character Trailer 3 : MERMAIDS ✨🌊🧜🏼‍♀️

The mermaids in this short, Priscilla and Morwenna, are very much inspired by Peter Pan's mermaids. They're sassy, kind of Mean Girls-coded, and very campy, owing in no small part to my voice actors credited in the next section.

In terms of design, they're meant to be read as a bit more of a hierarchy. I tried to hint at this by giving Priscilla a more elaborate crown/headpiece, while Morwenna is a bit more sparsely decorated, to show who the queen bee is.

Morwenna is meant to echo fish in the deep sea, so she's darker in color scheme and can make her eyes glow when she casts deep sea magics. Priscilla is similarly supposed to put one in mind of a mandarinfish, a colorful creature that inhabits reefs and shallower waters.

As previously mentioned, they are meant to be deeply campy and fun, so I cast two drag performer friends in the roles. Priscilla's almost over-the-top level of camp villainy was something Mia brought to the front of the character's performance, while Dolly's more ditzy and subservient Morwenna adds much more dimension to the relationship.

The Greek lines in the sea serpent summoning video were recited by Mia, because Dolly was nervous about mispronouncing the words and didn't want to offend anyone in case she got it wrong.

Priscilla is voiced by Mia Wallis-Humm and Morwenna is voiced by Dolly Rose.
