The lagoon I created for this short is very much inspired on the mermaid lagoon from Disney's Peter Pan, but with a bit of that Sea of Thieves energy that's also present in my landlocked characters. The overly detailed transparent textures hanging down over the skull were handpainted using my own seaweed and seagrass brushes in Clip Studio Paint, my 2D art software of choice. I added a ton of giant seashells and sea stars because I felt it would add a lot to the magical energy of this lagoon - it should only feel real enough that you can recognise it as a lagoon, but it houses magical creatures, it shouldn't feel mundane or nonmagical.
The principal lagoon set up was modeled and painted by me, but the lean-to and massive bones seen in the final image are kitbashed from works by Magnus Tellman and Quaternius on Sketchfab respectively. Those models use their own textures, I've just added stuff on. I've used them respecting the creative commons license found in each model's downloaded files.
The lagoon has no trees or wildlife because I didn't really feel they would be necessary.
